Unusual Announcement on my Flight

The Unusual Announcement on my Flight

Flying home from New York yesterday, a flight attendant got onto the PA system and made the following announcement right before our plane touched down in Houston:

“We’d like to make mention of an honorary passenger Helen, on our flight. Helen has just turned 90 years old and today she is flying for the first time in her life! After living in NYC for 90 years - she is moving to Houston today!”

I made sure to meet Helen personally, to congratulate her and wish her many blessings.

I was deeply moved by the bravery and spunkiness of this 90 year old woman.

It got me thinking about how much we can all learn from Helen:

Regardless of our station in life, in order to progress and achieve, we must be prepared to try something new and venture bravely out of that ‘cozy zone’.

This idea can mean something different for each person, but it sure was refreshing and memorable to have met a 90 year old embodiment of this timeless message!

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Yossi Zaklikofsky
