Here’s a Bright Idea

Here’s a Bright Idea

As our Houston community continues to recover from the devastating Memorial Day Flood, our inboxes and news-feeds continue to be flooded with a tremendous amount of coordinated volunteer opportunities!

From hot meals to moving trucks and everything in between, friends and strangers have proven that indeed we are all here for each other.

Even beyond the established organizations, it has been the everyday men and women, friends and ‘Facebook friends’ who have come through to help in unprecedented ways!

Recently, we learned how Aaron (the high priest) was instructed regarding the daily kindling of the Menorah in the Temple. While technically he was just kindling wicks, essentially his service represented lighting up the souls of the Jewish people. It was Aaron’s job to inspire, help and uplift the people.

Interestingly enough, according to the law - the Menorah could have been lit by anyone. Even a non–Kohen, a layman, could have been the igniter.

Similarly, when it boils down to life beyond the Temple, one need not be a ‘Kohen’ or part of the established leadership to make a great impact.

To kindle the flame of another, and bring warmth to someone in their time of need, is a mission we are ALL charged with.

How heartwarming to see this bright idea in ACTION!

Shabbat Shalom!
