How to Earn College Credit—and Crush This Class
This class is designed to be real, relevant, and connected to your world. If you show up, think deeply, and bring your voice, you can earn college credit while still in High School. Here’s what you need to do to succeed:
1. Get Ready Before Class (Part 1)
-
Read the assigned articles on Canvas.
-
These give you the background to understand the big ideas we’ll discuss in class.
2. Get Ready Before Class (Part 2)
-
Watch the lesson video on Canvas to learn the main concept for the week.
-
Join the online discussion chat and answer the posted question:
-
Give a complete answer and explain your thinking.
-
Share your honest opinion, even if it’s different from what the class may conclude.
-
You can post more than one idea: maybe your “correct” answer plus what you’d actually do in real life. Explain both!
-
Respond to other students respectfully: agree, disagree, or add your thoughts.
-
Tip: This shows your brain working—that’s how you earn credit!
3. Show Up and Participate in Class
-
Be present and engaged. If you miss a class, watch the recording.
-
Ask questions, share opinions, and connect ideas.
-
Thoughtful contributions boost your participation grade.
4. Review Notes and Take the Quiz
-
After class, complete the multiple-choice quiz in Canvas before the next session.
-
This helps solidify what you’ve learned.
Final Presentation (Weeks 6 & 18)
-
Give a 5–7 minute oral presentation (about 700–1,000 words).
Step 1: Pick Your Scenario
-
Real-life conflict, tough choice, or moral dilemma.
-
Could be something personal, from the news, or a true story that challenges values.
Step 2: Get Approval
-
Check with your instructor to make sure your idea has strong potential.
Step 3: Build Your Presentation
Include:
-
A clear, engaging retelling of the situation and conflict.
-
What the main person did, or could have done.
-
How the course ideas apply and suggest the best choice.
-
What you would do in a similar situation, based on your values.
-
Edit to fit the 5–7 minute time limit.
